How did you do THIS ONE? I've never been able to get a good shot of the moon! The best I ever achieved was in New Mexico, and even there the detail of the moon is missing.

Hey Paul, actually it was quite easy since I have spot meter in my camera. That means that I can get a very reliable meter reading right off the moon with my 300mm lense (actually 200mm but times 1.5 with the nikon D70). Since I am able to zoom in close enough to get only the moon metered I can just assume that the moon is approximately middle gray and shoot it for the appropriate shutter speed and f-stop. Then I just upload the picture to my computer and crop out about 80 percent of it. I really wish I could get myself an 800mm lense and shoot it with that.
Since I discovered that I can do this I always shoot the moon when I get a good clear night, especially when it is on the horizon.

I've never metered the moon...my old Ricoh averages the light, so I'd ignore it's reading and then bracket my exposures...I've always over estimated.
